Telstra's $4.6 million Broadband boost
The Australian broadband market was given a further boost in February
2003 by Telstra's announcement of a $4.6 million allocation of cash
and bandwidth to 19 applicants in the first round of the Telstra
Broadband Fund..
The Telstra Broadband Fund provides cash and bandwidth contributions
to support the development of new and innovative technologies that
will encourage the uptake of broadband in Australia.
The supported projects include itv|world's Stream Guard, an end
to end digital rights management solution that to enable any party
that has Real Media or WinMedia video to publish content conditional
on subscription or pay-per-use rules with unprecedented ease and
economy. It is envisaged that Stream Guard will comprise Web based
tools to upload content to a managed environment, a set of access
rules and comprehensive performance reports. A B2B model is proposed,
targeting ISPs and hosting customers. These licensees would market
and sell a Stream Guard digital rights management layer as part
of their core streaming offering to corporates, educational institutions
and media companies.
The projects were selected by the Board of the Telstra Broadband
Fund, which consists of experts in the fields of government, education,
film, multimedia, internet and telecommunications. The majority
of members are independent of Telstra.
